Teaching Your Dog Sit
Teaching your dog how to sit is simple. First, lightly push your dogs butt on the ground and say 'sit, this is sit' and give your dog a treat and praise him/her. By doing this, your dog will know the position is what you are telling him/her and in this case it would be sit.
If your dog seems to feel uncomfortable in that position know that that is normal. Do this everyday for a 1 minute. Remember to always praise your dog and give it a treat.
After about two weeks of lightly pushing your dogs butt to the ground, cup your hand and say sit. If your dog does this, give him/her lots of praise and a treat and practice a little bit more.
If your dog didn't sit then say ' ah-ah' calmly. Try it again and if he/she still doesn't do it, try it again another time. But if your dog STILL doesn't sit, just continue to lightly push your dogs butt on the ground and treat your dog no matter what it does until you try the other routine again.
Once your dog gets used to doing sit, you don't have to practice as much. Once your dog gets used to Sit, add it to you Basic Dog Routine.
